I Used to Think Essential Oils Were Liquid Potpourri

I am the first one to admit, I really didn’t get what the hype was on essential oils? Until about a year and a half ago I thought they were amazing for enhancing potpourri, lavender was great for a relaxing bath, peppermint could help ease a headache, and that was my limited knowledge.  When people would share with me their “oil experiences and oil uses” I was excited for them, but I will admit, and I am going to be honest, that I thought essentials were a bit of hocus pocus.   That was my belief, until I had my  first couple “oil experiences”, until I realized the healing properties of essential oils.  So about a year and a half ago I decided to find out what the hype on essential oils really was about? So, I ordered  a kit of dōTERRA oils (the EVERY oil kit – I wanted to have them all) and started researching essential oils.  I have to admit I was amazed…I had no idea they were mentioned 500 times directly in the Bible, that Romans and Egyptians used them.  I also had no idea that there is an oil for everything! Did you know that you can put diluted (with a carrier oil/dōTERRA fractionated coconut oil) oregano on a wart? Or that peppermint works with digestion, fevers, headaches, and that is just the beginning? Or that citrus oils are great for depressions? Frankincense works wonders on acne and cancer cells – there is even message on pubmed.gov on frankincence? These are just a few of the uses for essential oils.  As a chiropractor and wellness expert, I was drawn to the healing properties of essential oils giving an avenue other than pharmaceuticals and over the counter for individuals seeking wellness alternatives.

One key aspect I found in my research on essential oils was that essential oils cross cell membranes, promoting cellular healing and DNA repair.  This ONE point completely shifted my perspective, since then I have incorporated essential oils in to my daily wellness routine.  Cellular health is really important especially when you realize you are only as healthy as your cells!

This is just a bit of information when researching what the hype on essential oils really was about! If you are interested in learning more I have a webinar I think you will love – it includes the June 2014 special from dōTERRA! Just click here and enjoy! And if you want to read a bit more info, which I have accumulated then simply click here!

Chiropractic: Miracle vs. Expectation

Everyone loves a miracle. Miracles provide that feel good endorphin rush that just when you think a scenario has no hope of changing direction, “poof!” and God’s divine intervention shines through and the tables are turned. Have we lowered our expectations due to lack of hope in such a way that expectations are often misconstrued as miracles?

What it is a miracle? The Webster-Merriam Dictionary defines a miracle as “an extraordinary event manifesting divine intervention in human affairs”. A miracle is something unexplainable that occurs, an extraordinary unexplainable event. Being stranded in a desert where there has NEVER been water and suddenly you see an oasis ahead of you or being ran over by a car and walking away with NO injuries are both perfect examples of miracles; both are instances where there was clearly divine intervention. A miracle is always unexpected and exemplifies God’s perfect intent.

Expected is the antonym of unexpected and is defined in the same dictionary as “to anticipate or look forward to the coming or occurrence of” or “to consider probable of”. Expecting something will happen is an expectation. Each year you expect the grass to turn green, the flowers to bloom, and the seasons to change because they are normal occurrences. Expectations are accompanied by a sense of knowing they too occur via the intention of God but because they are rhythmic in occurrence often they are not given the recognition of a miracle.

Expectations are of divine intention and miracles are of divine intervention. The innate function of the all-living creatures is divine intention; all living creatures possess an innate. Innate joins two cells and produces a human in 280 days, wings birds and intuitively they fly, fang animals and inherently they know to kill there own food, and gives breath and life to every living creature. All living creatures possess an inborn potential to function and heal themselves innate is the driving force. Innate delivers a mental impulse that allows for full manifestation of life, innate must be expressed.

To the educated mind the releasing of the imprisoned impulse in chiropractic is often viewed as a “chiropractic miracle”. The phrase “chiropractic miracle” is often used in such a context as, “My friend who was dying of cancer went to this chiropractor and got well. It was really a miracle!” Or “My friend’s son was born deaf and started seeing this chiropractor and now he has full hearing. It was truly a miracle. We are just so blessed.” These are just a couple of examples that exemplify how innate’s inherent manifestation is often perceived by man to be a miracle. “Chiropractic Expectation” better explains innate’s intention. “Chiropractic Expectation” reinforces the anticipation and probability that what is happening is exactly what is supposed to happen.

Knowing innate’s intention and complexity I can see where chiropractic releasing the imprisoned impulse can appear miraculous to the educated man. But, it is imperative for the preservation and progression of chiropractic that we educate and explain so that chiropractic is understood as an expectation and not a miracle. This differentiation will allow people to begin to grasp that chiropractic is not health thru divine intervention but that it facilitates full expression of innate via divine intention.

Four Years, Really? Wow! Time Flies When You Set Your Goals High

Monday, April 18, 2011

Dr. Martha’s Monday Morning Motivational

It’s hard to believe that Monday, April 18 2011 is the four-year anniversary of Optimal Chiropractic.  It seems like just yesterday I was standing in line with my classmates awaiting our hard earned diplomas.  Going back to that date, April 22, 2006, I know that there was no way I thought I would be where I am today.  Here I am five years after my graduation from Logan College of Chiropractic, running a successful wellness practice and I can’t help but remain in a constant state of gratitude.

I was thinking back to when I decided to open my own practice.  While it seems like yesterday it also seems like a lifetime ago.  I have accomplished so much in four years.  Prior to graduation I had planned to move to Colorado but through a chain of events and changes I was suddenly back in Springfield, IL where I had grown up living in my parents house and attempting to find myself.  After about five months, I remember my dad asking me if I was going to use my doctorate? I realized then that I had to do something because what I was doing, which was nothing, wasn’t enough and wouldn’t work much longer.  It was at that time I decided to open my own practice.

I am not really sure what I thought when I opened my practice.  I knew I had to do something, so something is what I was going to do.  We all eventually get to a point when we realize what we are doing isn’t working and come to the decision that we must do something different or we have the possibility of becoming insane.  Insanity, after all, is doing the same thing over and over expecting different results but doing nothing differently! By April 18, 2007 my office was up and running.

Lately, I have been reflecting over the past five years since graduation.  I feel like I have lived a thousand lifetimes.  I looked back at my five-year list, which I wrote in November of 2006 at the Lifebook Lounge in Chicago.  As I looked over the list I was awed, almost EVERYTHING on my goal list has been accomplished and I know without a doubt that I will cross the rest off by October and by 2012 will start the new year with the new list I have already began to create.

Setting goals is important and BHAGs, big hairy audacious goals, are even more exciting.  When I set my goals I wanted to reach 1000+ visits a month, be TMC chiropractor of the year, share my heart in front of 100’s of chiropractors, qualify for the Boston marathon and run my best time there on the anniversary of my mom’s death, and the list goes on.  Then they seemed intangible but I knew then what I know now if you believe it you achieve it.  So I set my goals and my intentions and began to speak in affirmations. As the days, months, and years passed I was able to reach goal after goal because I KNEW I would.

Today more than ever I am growing and I know that I am about to hit another tipping point that will propel me into my next five years.  Five years that will lead to more reached goals, more changed lives, more friendships, and more successes that put the icing on the cake of life.  I am so excited for what lies ahead and where I am headed.  I can always feel when change is near and currently the feeling is overwhelming, in a good way.

Thank you to every single person: family, friends, practice members, past and current staff, and colleagues who have allowed my dreams to become my reality. I am truly grateful that you chose to support me, believe in me, and be a part of my journey.  I am so honored that you have supported me and your continued support will allow me to continue to make my impact on the world. You are as much a part of this as I am!  Thank you and may God’s love bless you today and everyday!

Happy Birthday as well to my step mom, Elaine! I LOVE YOU! Thank you for adding to our family. You are a blessing and I love you for being a mother to me! I know my mom smiles and is honored that you chose to love us as your own!

Attitude of Gratitude

An Attitude of Gratitude

August 30, 2010

Dr. Martha’s Monday Morning Motivational

If you are looking to increase your vibrational state start by giving thanks each day. Gratitude is the simplest way to get a vibrational boost! Being gracious shows the universe you are thankful for all you have received and open and ready to receive in abundance.

Gratitude is the heart’s memory.  -French Proverb

My Why?

I heard once that you should start every morning with a full glass of gratitude.  The minute I heard this I started my day chugging a full glass immediately up on waking. I gave thanks for all I received and pre-thanked the universe for what I was about to receive.   I instantaneously noticed more and more blessings falling into my life.  I realized an intricate balance between thanking in abundance and receiving in abundance.

The French proverb, I list above states that “Gratitude is the heart’s memory”.  I just love this proverb and it is so true. When we express gratitude it comesstraight from the heart’s memory bank.  Something or someone has touched so deeply that it left a footprint in our heart and evoked an emotion.  An imprint like this is what leads us to be gracious. Expressing that gratitude sets forth a vibration attracting abundance into your life.

To all you who read I am truly grateful for your support! I have truly grown through this process and it is my wish you have as well.
