Why Settle For Good? When There’s GREAT.

The book, Good to Great by Collins, is one of my favorite books.  Not only is it an easy and enjoyable read, but also its message is simple yet powerful.  The book teaches us that good is the enemy of great and with even the simplest of changes we are able to go from good to great.  While, Good to Great is a business book; the book is applicable to life.  If you lead a life of purpose and a passion most likely your business is a HUGE part of who you are as an individual, intertwining life and business.

Like most people I want a great life in all aspects, well rounded so that all areas are equally balanced.  I’ve always been an achiever in all the aspects of life, wanting the best for my life, wanting a great life.  Dating back to grade school I always wanted to get the most of my education, social life, family relationships, and spiritual walk.  The same holds true today wanting a great life across the board and with aging I have added wanting a great life in the aspect of business and wellness.

There are times we look at others lives and say they have “a great life” but greatness is a personal experience relative to the individual.  The beauty of other’s opinions is just that that they are other people’s opinions.  I always appreciate when someone compliments my life but compliments don’t have to dictate that you have reached the top level for you, your successes and your level of greatness.   So many times we take a compliment as “stop” sign, telling us we have reached the level of greatness for any aspect of our life.  While we have only reached a level of greatness in another’s eyes, individually we must decide what a great life means to us.

Personally, I know that I have a good life and each day strive toward a great life. In my opinion a great life is not place you reach and become idle but rather something you constantly strive for because eventually great becomes a new version of good.  In order to never settle you must set the standard a bit higher.  Interestingly we transition from good to great and then great becomes a new level of good and we have to make the necessary shifts and set our standards to obtain a higher level of great.

Establish your version of great. Be specific and detailed, clearly defining what great looks like and feels like.  Set your goals and establish a path that will lead you to great. We all have the ability to have a great life; we just need to set our intentions and focus.  Greatness is available, wanting it is half the battle and creating the path is the other half.  Enjoy your journey from good to great and don’t let good old you back.  Here’s to us having a great life.

Four Years, Really? Wow! Time Flies When You Set Your Goals High

Monday, April 18, 2011

Dr. Martha’s Monday Morning Motivational

It’s hard to believe that Monday, April 18 2011 is the four-year anniversary of Optimal Chiropractic.  It seems like just yesterday I was standing in line with my classmates awaiting our hard earned diplomas.  Going back to that date, April 22, 2006, I know that there was no way I thought I would be where I am today.  Here I am five years after my graduation from Logan College of Chiropractic, running a successful wellness practice and I can’t help but remain in a constant state of gratitude.

I was thinking back to when I decided to open my own practice.  While it seems like yesterday it also seems like a lifetime ago.  I have accomplished so much in four years.  Prior to graduation I had planned to move to Colorado but through a chain of events and changes I was suddenly back in Springfield, IL where I had grown up living in my parents house and attempting to find myself.  After about five months, I remember my dad asking me if I was going to use my doctorate? I realized then that I had to do something because what I was doing, which was nothing, wasn’t enough and wouldn’t work much longer.  It was at that time I decided to open my own practice.

I am not really sure what I thought when I opened my practice.  I knew I had to do something, so something is what I was going to do.  We all eventually get to a point when we realize what we are doing isn’t working and come to the decision that we must do something different or we have the possibility of becoming insane.  Insanity, after all, is doing the same thing over and over expecting different results but doing nothing differently! By April 18, 2007 my office was up and running.

Lately, I have been reflecting over the past five years since graduation.  I feel like I have lived a thousand lifetimes.  I looked back at my five-year list, which I wrote in November of 2006 at the Lifebook Lounge in Chicago.  As I looked over the list I was awed, almost EVERYTHING on my goal list has been accomplished and I know without a doubt that I will cross the rest off by October and by 2012 will start the new year with the new list I have already began to create.

Setting goals is important and BHAGs, big hairy audacious goals, are even more exciting.  When I set my goals I wanted to reach 1000+ visits a month, be TMC chiropractor of the year, share my heart in front of 100’s of chiropractors, qualify for the Boston marathon and run my best time there on the anniversary of my mom’s death, and the list goes on.  Then they seemed intangible but I knew then what I know now if you believe it you achieve it.  So I set my goals and my intentions and began to speak in affirmations. As the days, months, and years passed I was able to reach goal after goal because I KNEW I would.

Today more than ever I am growing and I know that I am about to hit another tipping point that will propel me into my next five years.  Five years that will lead to more reached goals, more changed lives, more friendships, and more successes that put the icing on the cake of life.  I am so excited for what lies ahead and where I am headed.  I can always feel when change is near and currently the feeling is overwhelming, in a good way.

Thank you to every single person: family, friends, practice members, past and current staff, and colleagues who have allowed my dreams to become my reality. I am truly grateful that you chose to support me, believe in me, and be a part of my journey.  I am so honored that you have supported me and your continued support will allow me to continue to make my impact on the world. You are as much a part of this as I am!  Thank you and may God’s love bless you today and everyday!

Happy Birthday as well to my step mom, Elaine! I LOVE YOU! Thank you for adding to our family. You are a blessing and I love you for being a mother to me! I know my mom smiles and is honored that you chose to love us as your own!

We Are All One Adjustment Away from Making Our Lives Work

Dr. Martha’s Monday Morning Motivational

Monday, March 30, 2011

The truth about life is that we are all one adjustment from making our lives work.  Why is it that the one adjustment that is so hard? So often we see what we need to do and hesitate to do it?  Even when we know that that one thing is the necessary tweak to take our lives from good to great? It is all part of the process, part of the journey.  And then once we make that adjustment it is inevitable that we look back and say,  “That wasn’t so bad”.

This concept of just one adjustment to create the necessary energy to create a shift applies to all areas of life.  Looking at life in the terms of three aspects: emotional, chemical, and physical there is always an adjustment we can make to enhance our overall well-being.

In the chemical realm there are many little adjustments we can make and I recommend doing them one by one.  Starting with water is an easy one.  Just by enhancing your overall consumption on a daily basis can increase your innate function.  Adding a lemon takes it a step farther, another small adjustment.  Other adjustments you can begin to make are increasing your fruits and vegetables, decreasing or even eliminating your grains, eliminating dairy, and adding healthy fats take your wellness to the next level.  One or more of these small adjustments simply makes your life work to it’s fullest potential.  If it’s not your style to make multiple changes at once, start with one and make the next adjustment when you are ready.  This should not be a stress.

We often think more about the physical aspect of wellness because we feel that.  Aches and pains grab our attention and make it known that they are in our lives for an unknown length of time.  What people often fail to realize is that when you take one nerve and break it down into parts it is only 10% pain/sensory nerves, with 45% autonomic and 45% motor nerves.  People are able to wrap themselves around the 10% because it nags at them and makes itself known and they push aside or fail to accept the other 90%.  There are many people who don’t even know because they have never been told. People are always shocked when I explain that their low back pain, digestive problems, and reproductive problems are all correlated.  A light bulb goes off and they get it! So, in terms of physical health a simple adjustment by a chiropractor can bridge the gap that is holding an individual back from optimal health.  Our innate thrives when our nervous system is balanced and suddenly our life begins to work. Once we are balanced physically we can get the proper benefits of working out and again we make a necessary adjustment to function better.

Our emotional state can affect every area of our body.  Many times this area is overlooked because individuals don’t want to deal with the feelings that come with making emotional adjustments.  They almost become numb or comfortable and in a sense they deny the emotional stressors they are under.  Great majorities of people are never even taught to deal with emotional stressors or worse yet are taught to stifle them and ignore them. So, dealing with them is like understanding a foreign language.  There are often times that dealing with these stressors affects our relationships with ourselves or other people.  They are especially hard when they affect the people that we love.  I just remind people not every effect is negative – even if it is perceived at that time to be.  It’s also important to remember that often in the heat of dealing with the emotional stressor is the worse, the eye of the storm if you will.  And when thinking of a storm there is always a stillness in the air after the storm that reminds us that the storm played its role.  That it was a necessary evil of sorts to re-establish balance of nature.  This is also true of the emotional adjustments we have to make in order to enhance our lives.  While they are not easy they are necessary to give us the balance we need and to allow our lives to function optimally.

In all three areas it is important that we constantly make adjustments so that we are constantly going from good to great. Some areas are easy to make adjustments and others are hard but realize the more difficult the adjustment the greater the shift.  Adjustments may not always be enjoyable at the time but it’s the result that is worth it.  Remember, we are all one adjustment from making our life work.  What adjustment have you been putting off?

My Why? for Chiropractic Defined (in the market place)

Dr. Martha’s Monday Morning Motivational

Monday, February 28, 2010

It’s time we get loud and proud about chiropractic! By now many of you know that Mayo came out with  their Guide to Alternative Medicine! In the book, they explained the various types of alternative medicine.  I am glad they are educating the pubic as to what is available for them in respect to wellness. BUT, what has me a more than a little fired up is their definition of chiropractic — it’s just not correct. Am I mad at Mayo? No.  I am frustrated in general and most of the frustration is toward chiropractic. We have to band together and educate the public. Let me me clear…I am not saying we have to pick a technique or agree on a set philosophical definition amongst ourselves.  But what we have to do is explain what we are and what we do to the public.

We need to explain what a chiropractor is and what he or she does.  We need to explain subluxation, mental impulse, cavitation, and innate so that people understand. They need to know the importance of nervous system balance and being checked by a chiropractor regularly.  We need to explain in layman’s terms so that laymen understand why chiropractic is true health.  It is imperative for the health of EVERYONE and the progression of chiropractic.

Within chiropractic I understand that there are various techniques, philosophies, views, and so much more and I am not wanting to get everyone to agree within the profession.   Rather, I am wanting people to know who we are, what we do and why they should get checked and adjusted by a chiropractor! As it stands most don’t know.  As a matter of fact barely 2% of the population gets adjusted! AND what Mayo says is not helping in the matter.   Mayo said we are for pain, maximum 4-6 manipulations, ask your MD, be in charge of your DCs recommendations, and they used the word “cracking”! It is something I can not and will not stand for at all!

My frustration drove me to begin searching the web for chiropractic — “what is chiropractic?”, “what is a chiropractor?”, “what is an adjustment?”, “what is a subluxation?”, and many more topics.  By the end I could see why the average person would be confused.  And many times “quack watch” was the first site to pop up, warning the public against chiropractic.  I knew there had to be a way to get the concrete definition for the public so that they knew what chiropractors are, why they should go, what a subluxation is, etc… This lead me to speaking with my amazing friend and colleague, Lyle Koca.  I told him my idea… he quickly saw both the need and my point.  On this mission he and his wife are my partners to establish ourselves in healthcare — where we belong and that we are correctly defined.  You may ask what was my idea?

My idea is to have a main website,, that clearly explains chiropractic and the whys and whats of chiropractic so that people know why and see the importance.  I have also purchased 22+ sites that will all point to the main site,  So that when people google chiropractic or anything about chiropractic they get the truth.  Not lies or a version of the truth.  It’s necessary that we preserve chiropractic not only for our current generation but for the future of chiropractic.  Because, as Dr. Brad Glowaki said, “We are borrowing chiropractic from the future.”  We owe it to the future of chiropractic to begin to educate on the TRUE DEFINITION OF CHIROPRACTIC! Please understand that if we don’t educate properly then the world will continue to be misled and miseducated.

Please join with Lyle, Shawn, and I as we work for chiropractic and with chiropractors to set the record straight.  People need to know what we know in regards to the importance of chiropractic care.  They need to know why they should go, what will happen, what we can help, what a subluxation is, and the overall benefits.

PLEASE note: It is not my intent to decide whose definition presides (Stephenson vs. Palmer, etc) or to say one technique presides over another.  But, to get the word out on chiropractic! To educate on a subluxation and the importance of detection and correction.  It is my desire people understand the importance of a proper functioning nervous system and understand innate intelligence.  Plain and simple that more people obtain a chiropractor, get checked, and get adjsuted.

I am not a fighter, I am a lover.  I have no intention of starting another war in chiropractic — we have plenty going on as it stands.  So, I am not asking to re-define can not be re-defined.  Chiropractic is chiropractic.  I am seeking to make chiropractic known for what chiropractic is and what it stands for since 1895.  So, understand my heart is pure and my passion is intense — I love this profession and am a chiropracTOR.  I will move on to save this profession regardless because it is who I am and I owe it to the future for this is not mine but theirs; not ours but theirs.  So, join with me and help educate the world.  If we spread the word, we can save the world! We have what they need…we have to speak up!

Chiropractic (Flippin’) Rocks

Dr. Martha’s Monday Morning Motivational

Try and prove to me that there is a profession better than chiropractic…I dare you? I am pretty sure it can’t be done.  But, I am willing to hear you out.

I just got back from CalJam put on by the wonderful Billy D and Mary Jane where I got fully submersed in chiropractic philosophy and education! These two have done a phenomenal job of creating an event that exemplifies what chiropractic is all about! I know I am not alone when I say job well done…or I should say mission fulfilled.

So…CalJam…as I am sitting there with some of my best friends (missing a few who weren’t able to make it) my heart swelled with love for the profession and the people in it! Speakers were so purpose centered while delivering their messages with intent and clarity.  Speaker after speaker shared their love of chiropractic and for saving lives.  Many speakers shared stats in regards to society’s current version of healthcare that got me so fired up…I couldn’t wait to turn it up a notch and get louder about my convictions! I learned many “tweaks” that I can make to continually step up and serve at a different level! To everyone who shared his or her passion at CalJam, I say THANK YOU! Your impact is HUGE and your love is EVIDENT!

As I reminisced about the weekend I couldn’t help but ask myself is there a profession that is better than chiropractic? Because Chiropractic is FLIPPIN’ AWESOME! Let me share with you why chiropractic rocks.  I know you will see it my way…just read on.

LOVE, chiropractic has sooo much LOVE! Love for each other, the profession, the heritage of chiropractic, and the people that we serve.  A general love for FULL EXPRESSION of life! What other profession has such a pure and abounding love?

SEMINARS are a BLAST! I have never heard a friend say that they are excited to go to a seminar other than a chiropractor.  We love seminars! At seminars we get to join together with the people that we love and talk about what we love! Seminars give us a chance to get “dipped” in chiropractic philosophy! I doubt you will ever here gynecologists say I am going to get “dipped” at a seminar…well the “dipping” I am speaking of anyways!

While on the topic of PHILOSOPHY, I am not sure there is a profession so proud of their philosophy and so focused on preserving the sacred trust from which we were birthed. As chiropractors we strive to remain rooted in the sound beliefs on which our profession was founded and work diligently to preserve our sacred trust and maintain our core ideologies.  As a profession we seek to eliminate subluxations and to educate about the dangers of BIG PHARMA!  We know that what we know others must know too! And we are willing to scream, shout, or even sing it to be heard.   I highly doubt that dentists are screaming, “Destroy cavities” and “let’s take down Willy Wonka Chocolate Factory and Hershey’s”…but maybe? I also highly doubt that they have secret societies to preserve the sacred truth of their profession and honor their forefathers.  For us it’s DD and BJ Palmer, Gonstead, Mabel, and the list goes on!  We even make t-shirts to show our love for them. I doubt there are shirts with Lister and Fleming on them for MDs to show their love!  But, if so then rock on! Just don’t ask me to wear one!

We CHECK each other for subluxations at seminars to make sure we are fully expressing innate. I KNOW that proctologists, gynecologists, and urologists are not checking each other and I think its safe to assume that goes for most professions.  Not chiropractors we check each other multiple times to make sure that we are functioning 100% in order to serve at the highest level possible.

We EDUCATE and GET EDUCTATED! As chiropractors we strive to educate our practice members and community on true wellness and we MUST stay ahead of the curve.  On a daily basis as a society we are lied to about what being healthy is because we are taught that sickness is OK and normal. As a nation our current model of healthcare is not wellness oriented and rather than being taught we can live a healthy life free of sickness, dis-ease, and disease we are taught that we should just keep up with breaking down! NOT TRUE and as chiropractors we know something that others MUST know and most of us are willing to do whatever it takes to EDUCATE and make the SHIFT necessary to allow society to LIVE and THRIVE! We are willing to risk it all in terms of what people consider “normal” (define normal) to gain it all in terms of integrity! Show me a profession with the conviction necessary to go against the “NORM”…while the rest of the world are like sheep…where they just do what everyone else does to be liked. Most of us get that society may not like what we say at first but they will love us when they know that we know and share is the TRUTH and it’s OK to be weird when “normal” is sickness, sadness, and early death with the years leading upto death being AWFUL! Not on my watch is what I say along with thousands of my colleagues.  Our purpose is to great and fueled by our passion we are UNSTOPPABLE!

And these are just some of the amazing things about chiropractic as a profession! We are a step above on so many levels and not just in the caliber of people in our profession and our amazing positive vibe that just exudes from us but also in our knowledge of TRUE wellness and where society must go to live optimally! Now please note that this is my opinion and the opinion of MOST chiropractors…there are some who are too scared to let their light shine to bring illumination to our dark and dreary world! But, don’t worry I love them enough to share my heart with them too! And won’t stop til I am heard.

Well or Sick? You CHOOSE.

Monday, January 24, 2011

Dr. Martha’s Monday Morning Motivational

“You don’t have to be sick, choose to be well”, Dr. Martha Nessler.  I said this quote as I was ranting about a drug commercial.  Americans are flooded with negative thoughts in regards to health and wellness EVERYDAY! They hear them in the car, on the TV, from friends, at work, on billboards, on business signs, etc.  Every corner you turn whether in a building or on the street there are advertisements lying to you that your body CAN’T and that it needs some outside force.  FRANKLY, that’s not TRUE but rather a bold face lie from big pharma and it’s cohorts.  The TRUTH is that you can be well and that you can heal yourself, you just have to CHOOSE it!

Choice is an interesting thing.  You are given two options or more and then you decide.  Scary ,huh? Well, only if you allow it to be.  If you take a deep breath and logically think, then no choice seems that scary but when in a panic well it’s little more difficult to make a logical choice, right?  So, take a deep breath and read for a few seconds and at the end make the decision, do you really have to be sick? Or can you be well?

Our society tells us that we need drugs and vaccinations to feel better and function optimally and that without these drugs we will never be well. These statements and fear tactics are simply not true.  We can be well and we were designed to be well.  Individually we just have to decide to be well.  We have to make a conscious decision to be proactive in our own healthcare and that means stepping up and stepping out.  A shift in thought and belief is necessary and it’s all we need to tip the scales toward wellness.

Over the years we have been lead to believe that we are breaking down and that we eventually just fall apart.   This is true and not true.  It’s true ONLY if you stop taking care of yourself, if you stop making time for yourself, and stop eating right and thinking right, and stop moving.  Stopping all this WILL cause you to breaking down.  It’s honestly a recipe for disaster.  A recipe that will create frustration and give birth to diseases and disorders and speed up the breakdown of your human body.   When your body breaks down (dies) where will you live?  Just as you can do NONE of this and be sick you can DO ALL of this and BE WELL.  You can eat whole and live foods, get proper sleep, workout, and exercise, take time for yourself, and take care of yourself and move towards optimal health.  You choose.

Let’s take this out of the perspective of the human body and talk about your car.  People always take care of their cars.  They see them as an asset that has value.  I am here to tell you that you are an asset that has value.  Cars today have a main computer system in the engine that is the master system and many adjunctive systems that all work together to allow a car to drive.  In order to maintain your car, you take your car for routine checkups and have all the systems checked.  Do you get routine check ups? When a light comes illuminates on the dashboard you take the car to be serviced and have the “symptom” assessed” When you have a “symptom” do you get it assessed? Let’s use your oil light as a “symptom”.  If the oil light in your car comes on it letting you know that your oil level is low and that your oil needs changed. It’s imperative that you change the oil so that you don’t throw a rod and damage the engine.  So, you get the oil changed because it’s a warning that let’s you know if you DON’T do it you won’t like the outcome.  What if you put duct tape over the oil light? Nothing.  You have just masked the symptom and the problem will get worse and your car will break down.  To maintain the life of your car routine checkups are a must.  The choice is yours: maintain your car and it runs forever or neglect your car and it breaks down.  The only difference in a car and a human body is that you can’t get a new body.

Just like a car you have a master system, the nervous system, and a bunch of adjunctive systems that allow you to function.  As humans we get warning signs (headache, indigestion, anxiety, bladder problems, etc) and they let us know that our master system needs to be addressed.  Those symptoms are not telling us that we are lacking a drug or need a vaccine but rather letting us know we have one or more stressors affecting us that is causing our master system to be running low, i.e. nervous system interference.  Nervous system interference is similar to “running low on oil or gas”.  Interference to our nervous system falls into three different categories: chemical, physical, and emotional.  In order to function optimally the stressors must be addressed or slowly (and sometimes quickly) we will break down.

Seems a little different when you put it into perspective, huh? Believe me I know.  I remember the first time I was told I could live my life without being sick.  At first I was like most people, I was completely shocked.  After I got over the initial shock I was a little angry that I had been lied to and lead astray for so long.  After I let it all go and realized how blessed I was to have been informed I became proactive in my own wellness and I have never looked back. I only look forward to my future that is so bright it burns my eyes because I no longer live in fear that I will be sick but rather look ahead and know that I will be well.  I will be well because I choose to be well.  What will you choose? Remember you do have a choice.

The The Intensity of Human Suffering and Despair

Dr. Martha’s Monday Motivational

Monday, December 27, 2010

I was going through the top ten photos that depict moments in history, which was sent to me by a friend and I came across a photo taken by a Vietnamese photographer Nick Ut. The photo was taken in June 1972 of a nine-year-old girl, Kim Phuc, fleeing her village after a napalm attack.   The little girl was caught on fire in the attack and had to escape immediately. In the photo running next to her is her older brother and one young brother looking back to the black smoke, and another two [members of] her family are with her and immediately behind her you see all the South Vietnamese armies running along. While she was running she was literally burning alive, all of her clothing was burned off, and her skin was charred. When I look at the girl’s face I am consumed by the intensity of human suffering and despair.

The more I looked at this photo the more I began to think about our society and healthcare.  Many people are at a point where are afraid, they are lost and alone, because slowly they are dying rather than living a healthy abundant life.  I see many Americans as Kim, the naked girl in the village.  To me Kim is the typical sick American, running, scared, and feeling alone.  Next to her I see family and friends who are doing there best to support her but they are living in the same fear based model that leaves them afraid of their friend’s health and future as well as their own.

Remember the scenario behind the photo was a napalm attack on the village that caused a level of danger that was so intense even the South Vietnamese armies were fleeing.  In this photo, American healthcare is our napalm attack and it is at such a dangerous point that even our medical doctors and big pharma are scared, which are our version of South Vietnames armies.  The same human suffering and despair is evident in the average Americans face you see in Kim’s but because the average American is not running naked and burning alive we tend to overlook or not realize the intensity.

This photo really evoked a lot of emotion in me.  I literally sat in silence as I reflected on where our society is currently and where it is headed, especially if we continue heading in the downward spiral, which we are moving.  As a society if we continue to follow a model that treats sickness rather than promotes wellness we will continue to create thousands of Kim Phucs, individuals who are running in fear from the same system that is our source of help and support.

I researched Kim Phuc, she is living in Canada with her family. In that attack her skin was burned so badly that she under went 17 surgeries. Today she is alive and well in Canada.  While her heart may still bear the scars of the napalm attack on her village there are no outward scars to show of that day.

This photo and story is a great reminder that in an instant you can change your story and create a new outcome.  Americans don’t have to continue to flee from sickness obtaining scar after scar.   With the freedom of choice comes the freedom of health, the freedom to make choices that give life and allow optimal wellness.  The shift toward wellness will alter the current “sick” state that the majority of Americans are in and allow them to live the remaining years of their lives in a state of total wellness.  While there may still be some internal scars of sickness they are simply that scars and scars are often great reminders of where we have been and allow us to focus on where we are headed.  It is time that we stop the attacks, which are occurring more and more frequently on our nation’s healthcare and begin to heal the wounds it has created.  We need to unite as chiropractors and create the peace treaty necessary to change the face of this nation’s healthcare.

To Never Be Professionally Lonely

Dr. Martha’s Monday Morning Motivational

Monday December 19, 2010

There is nothing like being together with a group of chiropractors.  It’s a completely different vibration than you will feel anywhere else.  When you walk into a room filled with chiropractors you immediately feel the love and are almost always greeted with a warm embrace.  You always feel welcome and you can just feel the healing energy that abounds from the room.  It is amazing to be around so many people who share in your mission and who are purpose driven.  It’s great to know you are not alone.

“Professionally lonely” is a phrase my good friend Heath McKinley, D.C. taught me.  He told me that he eventually came to a point in his career where he never wanted to be professionally lonely.  He always wanted to be a part of something bigger in chiropractic, a bigger network of people from where he could learn, grow, and give.  He couldn’t be more right.   It is imperative that we surround ourselves with colleagues who can push us and challenge us.  It is imperative that we are allowed to be leaders and followers in order to challenge ourselves professionally.

I know that Heath is not the only chiropractor who feels professionally alone in their community.  Especially chiropractors in smaller towns where there are a limited number of chiropractors they are accessible to.  While the gap is narrowing there are still many towns where varying chiropractic viewpoints, philosophical beliefs, and adjusting techniques separate many chiropractors.  As Patrick Gentempo has often said many are circling and shooting inward.

I am going to challenge you with two things and if you choose to accept you may be surprised at how different your new year will be.  The first challenge is to interact with your colleagues.  Join a group that allows you to get together with fellow chiropractors where you can grow and share together.  There are tons of varying groups and there is sure to be one that fulfills your needs.  There are philosophy groups such as EPOC, CORE, DCS, New Beginnings, and more.   These philosophy groups allow you to hear the hearts of chiropractors and expand your own consciousness.  There are many seminar series: CLA Summit, The Masters Circle, Parker Seminars, Epic Seminars, and more.  Seminars bring 100’s to 1000’s chiropractors together allowing you to not only grow professionally but to be surrounded in the vibration and energy that a seminar brings.  Many chiropractors are sharing their hearts on smaller platforms such as Brad Glowaki and Patrick Gentempo, Timothy Gay, Marc Gottlieb, and Matt Hubbard to name a few.  In the more intimate setting you can really get to know the speaker and more easily interact.  These are just a few of the options available; I know you will find one for you.  I challenge you to find one by the New Year and start 2011 off right!

The second challenge is to unite the chiropractors in your community.  I am asking that you find a way to join them together in the name of chiropractic and create a venue so that no chiropractor is professionally lonely.  Whether it be grabbing a bite to eat or a drink every other week or holding a small philosophy gathering once a month or taking them with you to one of your new professional events.  Whatever you choose I just ask you to work to unite the profession.  Because united together we can do so much more.

It is my wish that you adhere to my suggestions and that you choose get more involved in chiropractic and that you begin to bridge gaps and if it is not for your gain then let it be for the gain of the profession.  It is my desire that no chiropractor feel professionally lonely and that they have the support necessary to share their gifts and fulfill their purpose.  I will leave you with a quote I once in a movie that said, “So now, all alone or not, you gotta walk ahead. Thing to remember is if were all alone, then were all together in that too.”

Campaign to Make Chiropractic a Household Name and Call Big Pharma Quacks

Monday, December 13, 2010

After the weekend in Phoenix at the Marketing Bonanza, listening to all the speakers I sat in awe of the wisdom and love that flowed from each speaker’s mouth, it was as if their hearts had lips.  Their words were wise, thought through and compelling.  We are truly blessed to be in a profession where love abounds, that is purpose driven, lives are changed, and souls are touched.  To the speakers and Brad Glowaki I say, “Thank you! I am blessed to call you colleagues and friends.  I am eternally grateful.”

This weekend was my birthday, what a great place to be on your birthday, mist friends, loved ones, with chiropractors!  As I listened to each speaker share, I couldn’t help but think, how blessed I was to have been born a chiropractor.  I began to reflect on all the lives I have touched and all the lives I have yet to touch.  I was born with HUGE shoes to fill and I have every intention of filling them and then getting a new set to fill and continue until EVERYONE knows the power of chiropractic.

Gilles Lamarche said he was not there to offend but to share his heart.  That is the intention of this blog not to offend but to share my heart.  So, with your permission I will share it with you…if you choose to stop reading here I fully understand and thank you for your honesty, maybe you will come back to this blog later.

Chiropractors, we are at a time where we have two choices: we can step up or continue to coast.  It’s your choice no one can make it for you.  I can only tell you that I personally am accepting the nudge from God to step up and play at a bigger level and continually set the bar higher for my level of service. Many of you probably think that I already do a lot and I do but a lot is not enough.  Is there a limit on enough? Personally, I feel that until EVERYONE and I mean EVERYONE gets the importance of chiropractic care I have a lot to do.  We have a lot to do.

I know that thousands of chiropractors agree we have so much to do…we are in a place in society where people are hurting; they are hurting emotionally, physically, and mentally because they are subluxated emotionally, physically, and mentally.   They are searching to find a solution to get out of the downward spiral they are trapped in, seeking solid ground to stand on.  As chiropractors we have the answer we know the solution. BUT, we don’t have the abundance of money or media connections, or, societal power that the medical cartel, Big Pharma, has in this world.  Notice I said abundance, I didn’t say we LACK the money, media connections, or societal power.  So, the question is are we FULLY USING our resources? Are we playing full out and maximizing our potential?

I know that this weekend I realized that there are so many avenues I have yet to travel.  I am not on the radio…YET! I am not on TV…yet! I haven’t written a book…YET! This is just the beginning of what I haven’t done…YET! What is on your list? Are you maximizing all your options to educate? I am open and admit that I have not and I will be sitting down this week with my staff and masterminding on ways we can step up and play big! I urge you to do the same.

Billy DeMoss always says, people are dying and he couldn’t be more right.  The worst part is that many have no clue.  They are living what they think is a normal life? Because they have no clue that they are actually living an ABNORMAL life.  People blindly follow the rest of society in a direction that leads to a life full of sadness.  They follow the masses.  They have no idea that there is a second option, an option that leads to a life of abundance.  We have to tip the scale, we have to shift from masses of people moving down the road of destruction and create a movement down the path of wellness.

Sounds like a HUGE task right? That’s because it is, it’s a HUGE task.  But, it’s not an impossible task.  We just have to constantly do a little bit more, reach one more person, and raise our level of service.  Believe me the drug cartel doesn’t get comfortable and say we have reached enough lives with our poison! They are constantly expanding their marketing, doing more…polluting more. I doubt they have any intention of stopping until every person is on at least one TOXIC chemical, body/mind altering drug! So, why as a chiropractor would you sit back and say, I have save enough, I am content enough? WHY? You wouldn’t…there is no reason and frankly there is no time.  So, step up!

My purpose is simple to ignite…two simple words, TO IGNITE.  I want to ignite something in people they didn’t know they had and sadly enough…MOST DON’T KNOW THEY HAVE A CHOICE TO LIVE, TO THRIVE, TO FLOURISH!! So, I have no choice.  I have to step and serve more and then when I get to the next level, I will step up again, and so on and so on.  As a matter of fact I will publicly state that as long as the drug cartel is raising their level I will continue to raise mine.  The interesting thing is the motive.  We both want to get our message out.  I want everyone to know that they MUST live a subluxation free life allowing their nervous system to function free of interference or they will not thrive! Big Pharma wants people to believe the lie that they must have a drug to thrive that their innate can not sustain them without INTERFERENCE! The interesting thing is we both have a mission and a MOTIVE.

Motives are interesting…eventually they surface, eventually the truth is revealed.  Big Pharma’s motive is clear MONEY! There is no denying it! They love the money especially since it gives them power.  My motive is very different it’s LOVE.  Pure and genuine unadulterated love for the expression of life and to me that is power not my power but God’s power he gave us to live our lives full out.  So, I will continue to educate and to touch and save more lives.  I encourage all chiropractors to join me and as David Jackson said ACT ON IT! Act on your desire to reach and touch more lives with the power of chiropractic! Fulfill your purpose!

So, I will leave you with this…I love you and am asking you today to step it up and take it to the next level and when you get to that level create a new level and just don’t stop until we are a household name.  And we hear people call Big Pharma quacks and a cult!

Heart-Shaped Glasses” – Start looking at others as though you had on heart-shaped glasses.  View others as intricately and perfectly placed in your life.  Realize that when you see someone differently you usually treat them differently.  Make a shift in your perception.

Dr. Martha’s Monday Morning Motivational

My why: A while back I had someone who I highly respect coach me on viewing others through heart-shaped glasses.  I in awe of how differently I saw the world. People were illuminated in a different light. That day I decided to just leave my heart-shaped glasses on permanently.  SInce that day I have met hundreds of people who have deeply touched my life and because I had on my heart-shaped glasses I was open to their addition and impact on my life.

While in church on Sunday, someone spoke of heart-shaped glasses; it was the first time I had heard this from someone else.  I was reminded of what a blessing “heart-shaped” glasses have been to my life and wanted to pass the pearl of wisdom along.  Go ahead put your “heart-shaped” glasses on and watch the beauty that lies ahead of you.
