You Need a Few More Labor Days

Monday, September 6, 2010

Taking a day for yourself is imperative to rest, relax, and rejuvenate.  Serving at the highest level allows an individual to touch more lives and make a greater impact but it also sets them up for quicker burnout.  That’s why days of rest are so important and necessary, a day just for you! When was the last day you set aside for you? Don’t remember? Whether you remember or not, get out your calendar and block a few out for the rest of the year.

My Why?

Since it was Labor Day I thought I would remind myself and all my readers of why Labor Day was created.  Labor Day is about more than just the long weekend; it’s about you. Really. The holiday was created in conjunction with the labor movement “to celebrate the social and economic achievements of American workers,” in the words of the Department of Labor. The truth is you need a few Labor Days a year.

Labor Days” are imperative to re-fuel.  I know for me it is easy to get wrapped up in all the “Have To’s” that are required to get it all fit in to the 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 52 weeks, and 12 months we see ourselves as limited to in a year and I know I am not alone.  But, like I MUST remind myself, I am reminding you that YOU days (I call mine “Dr. Martha Days”) are VERY important.  They are a necessity! Set day or more aside and “shut down” from your everyday responsibilities to re-fuel.  While it may be hard to walk away once you do you will be glad you did and you will come back more focused and super charged! Ready to serve at a whole new level.  ENJOY!

Love. Laugh. Adjust.
