The Power of Simply Saying, “WHAT?”

“What?” in the world is going on with the people in the world? More and more I find the word “WHAT?” rolling off my tongue in utter shock in response to most things I hear these days! Sometimes, I feel like my grandma when I catch myself wondering what is happening in the world and with the people the world. We have gotten so far the root our creation, rather than trusting in God and His perfect design of the human body society has placed faith in man for fear that innate merely does not exist or in fact is not capable of maintaining our existence.  It is this shift in perspective of the percentage of humans that makes me say, think, and wonder “WHAT?”

In my opinion we don’t emphatically ask “WHAT?” enough. “WHAT?” in terms of “What are you talking about?” or “What does that mean?” or “What in the world?” And I don’t mean a weak “WHAT?” but a powerful, concerned, confused, “WHAT?” A “WHAT?” that makes the receiver of the “WHAT?” stop and think about the words that just formulated in their mind and rolled off their tongue. In my opinion, “WHAT?” is one of the most under used and powerful words that can be used to give H.O.P.E. (Helping Open People’s Eyes) and to wake people up! But, you have to say it like you are utterly confused and dumbfounded, come from a loving place, and say it with concern as to shake the current belief system of the average person on the planet earth.

My existence is very interesting, I live in the world but I don’t live with the world.  I see the world very different than the other 99.9% of its inhabitants.  Truthfully, if I didn’t have a copy of my birth certificate and the same forehead as my dad I would honestly entertain the idea that I may in fact be an alien from another planet. I have also entertained the idea that I am living in a movie similar to The Truman Show starring Jim Carey and that I am in fact in a “pretend” world where EVERYONE else is an actor/actress and the world salivates daily to watch my reaction to the nonsense I encounter, just to capture my reaction.  I’m fairly positive that neither is the case and if you know the truth please keep it to yourself and let me find out in due time, there is no rush.

It is the mindset of the majority of the people that I share this planet with that has me concerned and I find strength when I meet someone who is either from my planet or rather than sleeping they are awake.  Unlike most people I don’t believe that sick and dying is the way life was intended, that the body can not heal itself and needs the help of outside sources, that we are merely here to exist, that we have no control, and that anything I am told must be true.  Rather, I believe that sick and dying is an option, the body was designed to heal itself and simply needs no interference, I believe we all have a purpose, that we can control our own reality, and that most of what I hear from others is self-serving rather than true. While some may call me an optimist and others may claim I am crazy, there are those whose belief system is in line with mine and not only understand each other but our innates resonate at a cellular level.  Sadly, there are more that see my way of thought as “crazy” or “optimistic”; whatever the case I thoroughly enjoy the paradigm I have chosen to live in.

If I were to list out every single statement that I have heard within the last month that made me say, “WHAT?” there is a possibility that this blog would be in the running for the Guinness Book of Records for the World’s Longest blog.  I’ll list a few of my favorite words utter by others that have resulted in a “WHAT?” such as “I just got done with chemotherapy, I am healthy!” or “I’d rather be fat and sick than eat vegetables!” or “The prescription I am on made me healthy!” to all these statements I shockingly replied, “WHAT?” These are just a few of the many fallacies that society holds close to their heart and blindly follows it as concrete evidence that man is wiser than God.

In my opinion, the word “WHAT?” is a perfect wake up call, a siren if you will alerting the person with whom you are speaking to that the words they just utter shocked you and that you need explanation to understand.  It is at this time that they re-think their statement and can re-articulate if needed and or repeat the same statement.  You are now in the perfect position to ask questions regarding their “WHAT?” statement such as “Why do you believe that?” or “Who told you that?” or “Does that make to sense to you?” or “What does that mean?” These questions allow the individual to use the Socratic method to derive the necessary info to continue with their current belief or to make a necessary paradigm shift to enhance their life.

Start using “WHAT?”  Wake people up to the truth! Make them realize what they are saying is crazy! Wake them up to the truth…you owe it to them!

My Last “Dr. Martha’s Monday Morning Motivational” and Why!

My Last “Dr. Martha’s Monday Morning Motivational” and Why!

For over to years I have done “Dr. Martha’s Monday Morning Motivationals” and I have enjoyed every second of sharing my heart and inspiring others.  The truth is that I don’t always feel inspired to share on a Monday and have found myself almost forcing myself to write my blog because I committed to doing so and then my blog ends up feeling more forced and therefore less genuine.  This past two Mondays in November I found myself trying to squeeze out a blog just to write something, making my “Dr. Martha’s Monday Morning Motivationals” more of a “have to” rather than a “get to”.  After giving it some thought I came to the realization that I want to motivate when my innate leads me to and not when I am supposed to! Upon deciding this Saturday the sixteenth of November, I immediately wrote four blogs, which all just flowed.

I want to say thank you to my hundreds of followers to “Dr. Martha’s Monday Morning Motivation” over the past three years.  Many of you have been with me when it started as a weekly text.  My decision to stop pushing a blog out on Mondays will allow me to motivate and serve you when I allow blogs to flow from me and to you when innately I feel led. I thank you in advance for your understanding. All blogs will remain archived on my site www.drmarthanessler.com under the “blog” tab.

Freeing myself of the “have to” of the “Dr. Martha’s Monday Morning Motivationals” allows me to remain in line with my purpose, “To ignite in others that which they did not know resided with in them”. Thank you for allowing me to do that both past, present and future!

Integrity Must Be Restored to the CCE: Act Today for Chiropractic Tomorrow

We are at a critical time in chiropractic, where we have the ability to take the reigns back and guide our profession in the way in which it was intended! I am not speaking in regards to style of practice but to scope of practice. The scope of practice has always included and should always include the statement “without drugs and surgery”. The chiropractic profession began as a drugless profession and to preserve its integrity it must remain a drugless profession. More and more there are groups within the profession, such as the ACA who are seeking to change the scope of practice to include drugs and surgery. As a profession we have to step and stop this ludicrousness. It is imperative that we make changes throughout the profession to preserve the profession. The Chiropractic Council on Chiropractic Education is the governing force behind the curriculum taught in chiropractic colleges in the United States. To change the though pattern of chiropractors we must change the thoughts being put into the minds of chiropractors. The CCE currently controls and has controlled chiropractic as a profession by dictating to the schools what they must educate on in order to be accredited. But, rather than taking us farther as a profession, they are taking us farther from the foundation of our profession! Each year we have moved farther and farther from the principles from which we were established and as long as the CCE is in control we will continue to move farther from those principles. Rather thank learning more chiropractic while in school students the curriculum is and has been weighted heavy in medical curriculum. We are producing medi-practors because the CCE has set it up that way! Stopping this train of thought before it even begins is crucial to preserve the principle of chiropractic. Right now we have a small window of time to begin to restore the integrity to the CCE and therefore to chiropractic! Every five years the CCE is up for renewal of recognition by the USDE, this is that year. We have accomplished the first step necessary, letting the USDE know that CCE needs to be re-evaluated, re-structured, and re-formed. They have heard our cry and in December there will be a hearing where representatives from our profession will be addressing the issues of the CCE as it stands today. I applaud those of you who took time to share your heart and passion by writing letters to the USDE your cry did not go unheard! Thank you and now its time for the next leg in the journey to regain integrity to CCE. As an added strength to our case we need the support of politicians to make our case stronger and getting their attention is the next step. The support of politicians will be a HUGE support in the December hearing. There is power in numbers and a petition is the best way to show the numbers in regards to support. We have a petition on change.org under the heading. U.S. Department of Education: Restore integrity to the CCE. It is important that we get as many signatures as possible on this online petition. For posting on Facebook and emailing for support you can use the following URL, http://tinyurl.com/reformCCE. Get your community on board, set up a computer in your office and make it easy for patients to sign the petition as well as email their contacts to sign the petition. The support of politicians is crucial and will strengthen our case that integrity must be restored to the CCE. This petition is concrete proof that chiropractic without drugs and surgery is of the utmost importance to all those that are part of the chiropractic profession: chiropractors, staff, patients, advocates, and students. It is our objective that politicians realize the importance in re-evaluating, re-structuring, and re-forming the CCE to preserve chiropractic and, this petition will support that objective. When politicians realize how important the preservation of chiropractic is not only to chiropractors but also to chiropractic patients, students, and advocates our case will be strengthened. And while you are on the Internet get on Facebook, and join “The Movement for Chiropractic Quality and Integrity” and “like” it. Let your stance be known! Take five minutes out of your day and make a video showing your support and calling chiropractors and chiropractic leaders to action! We received this sacred trust from our fathers, D.D. and B.J, they asked us to keep it pure and not sullied or deformed. Today, I am asking the same, I am asking that you join me in preserving our profession. We are chiropractors and what separates us is the use of no external forces, no drugs or surgery. We are a light in a sick and dying world, we must keep that light lit! Today is the day to step up and be heard! We are at a crossroad and have the chance to grab the reigns and re-direct the profession, moving farther away from drugs and surgery and NOT closer. I love you because you love what I love and it is that love that will strengthen our mission. If you need me I am here, email me at drm@drmarthanessler.com! I love you! Love. Laugh. Adjust. Health Is Expensive: Will You Pay At One Time or Over Time”

Health Is Expensive: Will You Pay At One Time or Over Time”

I often hear that being healthy is expensive.  Like anything else I guess it is all a matter of perception and because perception dictates reality, being healthy could be perceived as “expensive”.  A glance at others perceptions can allow us to shift our perception if we are open to it. There was a time when I lived with the perceived notion that being healthy was expensive until I really began to understand that much like anything a simple shift in perspective can open your eyes to a world or thought process unknown.

I once heard a quote that said, “A man spends all his health to get his wealth and then in turn spends all his wealth to get his health”.  So, it is not being healthy that is expensive but rather it is health in general that is expensive.  It’s deciding whether or not to pay the “expense” of health over time or at one time. It is not whether or not you will pay but rather when you will pay.  In society there are two major paradigms that we are presented with when it comes to lifestyle choices, the medical paradigm or the chiropractic paradigm. Understanding these paradigms will allow you to know if you will pay for your health over time or all at one time.

The medical paradigm is centered on waiting until symptoms and/or disease present themselves and dealing with the “crisis” at that time.  The medical paradigm believes that as humans we slowly break down over time until we die.  It is a crisis-centered paradigm that waits until symptoms present themselves and deal with them at that time.  There is no way of knowing what crisis will present its self or when? A crisis can vary from the flu to a migraine to an appendectomy to heart surgery and the list goes on.  Much like Russian roulette there is no rhythm to their presentation nor is there a way to gage the cost of the crisis.   Over an individual’s life span they can experience one to a few crisis or multiple crisis, with each crisis decreasing their overall quality of life.  There then comes a point when individuals are willing to spend all the money that they have to maintain the final ounces of their health.  In this paradigm the expense for “health” is paid for in one lump sum at the time of service and can vary in cost from thousands to 10’s of thousands or even 100’s of thousands.  An individual’s perspective on the value of money shifts when it comes down to health or wealth.

The chiropractic paradigm stresses the importance of living a healthy lifestyle, which allows an individual to invest on his or herself over time with the objective of maintaining health and achieving longevity.  The chiropractic paradigm is centered around maintaining optimal wellness throughout an individual’s entire life with hopes of remaining in homeostasis and avoiding dis-ease which leads to disease.  Similar to dentistry, chiropractic believes in the importance of maintaining the body’s level of health through maintenance.  Dental maintenance is composed of regular check ups, regular in office cleaning, twice to three times daily brushing, and proper nutrition. A principled chiropractor will urge you to follow a wellness routine though nutrition, exercise, maintaining mental and spiritual balance and being checked regularly by your chiropractor.  Both practices are similar in that frequency of care varies with personal history, whether health history or dental history. In this paradigm you pay small amounts over time with the intent of maintaining the God given level of wellness you were gifted at birth.  This paradigm is true “life insurance”, with low premiums and high dividends.

Each and every individual is given the choice between paradigms.  When choosing your paradigm it is important to define quality of life and get clear on what kind of a life you want to live. While I am a free spirit and thrive off adventure there are some things that are more of a gamble rather than an adventure.  Personally, I’ve never understood Russian roulette, because “what if’? Much like a parent can only raise up a child with “hopes of” but ultimately the child must live their own “hopes” my hope for you is that you will invest in yourself.  I will not argue that health is expensive; “Is it expensive?” is not the question but rather “When will you pay the expense?” Will you pay slowly over time with the mind frame of preserving your health or will you pay a large amount at the end in hopes of preserving your life? If you look at cars they are a considerable expense and we take care of them, in hopes of maintaining them, even though they are replaceable.  Yet, with our own human body we neglect it as if it were replaceable.  Simply shifting your perspective and realizing that you are your most valuable asset and deserve to live your life full out and with full expression of life. When you realize you are worth it, you will realize every dollar spent is worth.  Money can buy anything but a new you!

Do Rx Drugs Work or Do They Just Make it Worse?

Do Rx Drugs Work or Do They Just Make it Worse?

I often get asked, “Why would I go to a chiropractor?” Personally, I ask, “Why wouldn’t you go to a chiropractor?” But, that is because I understand what chiropractic can do to increase an individual’s overall quality of life. Because I know that it not only increased my overall quality of life but also has saved my life.  I know that if everyone really understood what chiropractic would do to improve their overall quality of life and lives of their loved ones that they too would come to know what I know and love chiropractic like I love chiropractic.  Believe it or not there was a day when I was not in the same boat I am in today and had no idea what chiropractic could do for me.

The Verve sang a song called “The Drugs Don’t Work”.  The song’s objective is that the drugs don’t make the pain of a break up better and in fact make it worse, with the main chorus stating, “The Drugs Don’t Work They Just Make it Worse”.  That same statement can be used to explain pharmaceutical drugs; while they make the symptoms appear better they often make your overall body function worse and decrease your overall level of wellness.  It’s safe to say that when it comes to prescription drugs “The Drugs Don’t Work They Just Make it Worse”.

Prescription drug use is on the rise in America.  It not only amazes me how many people take prescriptions but how many prescription drugs individuals take at one time.  I was headed down the same road, so I not only have been there but also get the fear that is instilled by the medical model, the fear that you will NOT be better without the drugs and will not heal without the drugs.  When in fact the opposite is true, our human body is designed to heal itself it, needing no help, just no interference.

At the age of eleven, I started my journey with acid reflux.  Upon recommendation of my medical doctor I began taking chewable antacids.  When those stopped working I was recommended over the counter antacids and when the severity of my reflux peaked I was placed on prescription drugs.  Before I switched form the medical paradigm to the chiropractic paradigm, I was taking a concoction of two prescriptions, 3 over the counter, and carried a pack of chewable antacids with me at all times. I was a prisoner to the concoction that allowed me to enjoy my meals with minimal pain, burping, burning, and bloating.

For me my pivotal moment was my boyfriend at the time, Ryan. Very few people will say that their ex-boyfriend was an angel in their life but for me that is an understatement, Ryan was a lifesaver. Ryan explained to me that sick and dying was an option and that we were deigned to have optimal health.  He explained to me what chiropractic could do to change my life.  He explained to me that the Rx drugs I was taking were simply masking my symptoms and that I was actually getting worse.  He then explained that we as humans were meant to produce acid to aid in digestion and that my spine was subluxated so it was over producing acid.  He went on to say that the reason I went from chewable antacid to over the counter to prescription was because my body was doing what it was supposed to do and that the use of prescription drugs gave my body the perception it was being punished.  He informed me that the subluxation was the problem and the overproduction of acid was the symptom.  The oxymoron about the antacids was clear, my body is supposed to produce acid and the antacids were telling it to stop and because our innate will always balance us, in response to the antacids my body was in fact producing more acid.  Therefore I was actually increasing my overall acid production and making the reflux and bleeding ulcers worse, I was actually making myself sicker, the drugs just gave the illusion that I was feeling better as opposed to functioning better.

Drugs really are an oxymoron; while we feel better we are in fact functioning worse.  After becoming educated, I knew that it was time to switch my paradigm from medical to chiropractic. Within weeks, my life was completely different, not only was I antacid free but I was symptom free.  I was amazed at how great I felt and enjoyed not “having” to take a pill to enjoy my life.  I finally felt “normal” in terms of health.  This was my pivotal “Ah Ha” moment.  This was when I realized that the world needed the same paradigm shift that I had just had, switching from the medical paradigm to the chiropractic paradigm.

The medical paradigm supports the philosophy that we get sicker and sicker until we die, and follow the premise that through prescription drug use the sickness can be subdued.  Many people are under the misconception that drugs “heal” their problem, when in fact they simply mask their symptoms. The interesting thing about symptoms is that they are our body’s way of communicating with us similar to how your oil light lets you know that it is time for an oil change, therefore preventing breakdown by throwing a rod in your engine.  Without an oil light you would not know that you need to change your oil, the same is true of any symptom in the human body: high blood pressure, headaches, leg pain, incontinence, and a laundry list of other symptoms which are trying to alert you that your body needs attention.  Most people perceive symptoms as “negative” when in fact they should be seen as a “positive” as they are keeping the body in homeostasis to maintain proper function and sustain life.

Prescription drugs do a great job of giving the allusion that an individual’s pesky symptoms are gone when in fact they are just being suppressed.  Not only are the symptom not really gone, but the Rx drug often causes more symptoms and actually enhances overall body dysfunction.  Just as the Verve said, “The Drugs Don’t Work They Just Make it Worse” and just like in the song, street drugs mask the pain of a break up; in life Rx drugs mask the problem not make it go away.  Don’t get me wrong Rx drugs do alleviate the symptoms that an individual is experiencing but the underlying problem is still present just not noticeable via external perception. It is also important to make note of the vast array of side effects that are caused by Rx drugs. It is safe to ask,  “Do Rx drugs really make it better or long term are they making it worse?” Rx drugs are not the only option, in fact, most people would are baffled that there is an option besides more prescriptions. I know I was in utter disbelief that I could live my life without Rx drugs. Rx Drugs are part of the medical paradigm not part of the chiropractic paradigm.

The chiropractic paradigm is unique because it respects the human body and it’s ability to functional optimally.  While the medical paradigm says the body “can’t” the chiropractic paradigm says that the human body “can”.  The nervous system, which is composed of the brain, brain stem, spinal cord, and nerves controls every single function of the human body. When the nervous system is functioning optimally, the human body functions at 100%, free of symptoms.  The human body is under constant stressors: chemical, physical, and emotional that occur in our every day life and cause subluxations in the spinal column, which protects the spinal cord, these subluxations cause interference in normal body function.  Chiropractors detect subluxations, which impair nervous system function, therefore removing the problem and not just the symptom.  The chiropractic paradigm’s focus is optimizing overall wellness, where the medical paradigm is geared toward optimizing sickness.

I have never looked back on my decision to switch paradigms, not once in eleven years.  I live a life where I fully express life because my innate is fully expressed.  I am not sick and have no symptoms.  I have not taken pills, whether prescription or over the counter.  I get adjusted regularly and enjoy my life full out.  We all have the opportunity to live a life free of sickness, symptoms, dis-ease, and disease; it is our God born right.

If you need a chiropractor near you, feel free to email me at drm@drmarthanessler.com! I will find you someone to help guide you as you shift your paradigm!

Why Can’t I Get Get Pregnant?

Dr. Martha’s Monday Morning Motivational

“Why Am I Not Pregnant?”

This past year and a half I have been supporting a dear friend as she has struggled with infertility.  Up until recently she didn’t want my expertise. Sometimes our friends and family are the hardest to reach, but through it all she has had my undying support.  After a year of struggling with pregnancy, she and her husband got tested and were both found to be fertile leaving them even more frustrated.  They began giving her hormone injections, which just heightened her emotions, increased her weight, and decreased her hope when nothing changed.  The next step was IVF (In Vitro Fertilization), which landed her on bed rest when her ovaries rejected the eggs and her reproductive system became inflamed. Sitting in her consult with tears streaming down her face she asked, “Why can’t I get pregnant?”

“Why can’t I get pregnant?” is a question that plagues the minds of millions and millions of women a year.  After watching multiple friends and practice members suffer I realized that I needed to write this blog to both educate and give hope.  It is not diseases that are incurable but rather people who are incurable. More so than not women are being told that they “can’t” get pregnant without the help of intervention rather than being told why they are not getting pregnant. Barring significant medical conditions women are meant to be pregnant and by fine-tuning their lifestyle, pregnancy is just around the corner.

It is important to understand that the human body is vitalistic in nature, so it’s function cannot be explained by the laws of physics and chemistry alone.  Many times because the human body functions as a machine, we view it as mechanistic.  But that is not the case because mechanistic function can be explained.  If the human body were mechanistic then each and every time medicine would be a success and that is not the case. In my friend’s case, if the body were mechanistic, the injections and IVF would have worked.

So, “Why are you not pregnant?” The answer is simple, at this time your body is not prepared to carry a child.  The human body is controlled by innate intelligence, which governs the body and keeps the body in homeostasis. I go by the motto, “Your innate always knows.” While that can be a hard one to swallow, you are not in the desert with no water, but rather at an oasis where you can receive the knowledge necessary to boost your innate function and allow your body to function at any even more optimal level.

It is important to understand that at birth we have 100% innate function. We always have 100% innate function and while the percentage of function does not change, its expression does.  Innate expression is altered by stressors; chemical, physical, and emotional. This causes subluxations in the human body, creating interference in the human body therefore disrupting homeostasis.  Infertility is one of the many “symptoms” or dis-eases within the human body.  Dis-ease is the result of altered innate expression and over time leads to disease. In order to alter the expression of innate you must remove the stressors, which are causing the dis-ease.

Now that we know “Why you aren’t pregnant?” let’s work on what it will take to get your body where it needs to be to get pregnant.  First, you need to find a chiropractor to assess your nervous system function by locating subluxations within your spine that are causing dis-ease. He or she will then make spinal adjustments, which will ignite your innate expression. Remember, your chiropractor just performs the adjustment and the innate takes over.  As a chiropractor I never question innate. As for other stressors you will have to start to do what it takes to maintain balanced function…chemically, physically, and emotionally.  Physically, besides getting adjusted, you will need to maintain some form of an exercise routine and stay active. Emotionally, you will need to decrease your stress and stay in a positive mind set regardless of how frustrated and beaten down you feel. Chemically you will need to make sure you are eating the proper foods, drinking appropriate amounts of alkalized water, consuming proper nutrients and minerals, and realizing that pharmaceutical drugs are a stressor to your body.

I have had many frustrated women walk into my office feeling broken, frustrated, and alone…and together with the aforementioned plan; I am now adjusting their babies! Your body always knows.  Remember, it’s not that you can’t get pregnant but rather that the time is not right for you to be pregnant.

“Lightening Bug Moments”: Innate Communication

Lightening bugs let you know that summer has arrived and regardless of age they generate a smile and sense of awe.  What makes lightening bugs so intriguing is that they make a light within their bodies.  Through the process known as bioluminescence they internally light up to attract a mate.  The special cells within their abdomen allow them to illuminate, thus becoming more attractive and more noticeable.  Illumination is an unspoken communication to let possible mates know if they are or are not interested in mating.  Bioluminescence is innate to the lightening bug and other organisms and is a dominate form of communication.

Since February, I have done a dozen EPOCs and COREs across the nation.  I traveled coast to coast, been to small towns and large cities, and spoken to a wide variety of audiences full of chiropractors and their support teams. Regardless of the city I was in or the size of the crowd that I had attracted one thing was always the same, the feeling of innately knowing the crowd had had a pivotal shift.  Whether I am sharing my heart in front of thousands or one-one with a practice member, when the light bulb goes off I know they got it!

People are no different than lightening bugs, while we don’t physically illuminate since we are not innately adorned with the process of bioluminescence, we still light up when we get a cellular shift.  I love looking into the eyes of someone, connecting with them, and innately knowing they were different just moments before.  The innate ability to create a virtual luminescence is an intimate and silent form of communication, that says “I got it.  Thank you.”

At the end of the day, whether in the office, out and about, or having just shared with a crowd I always reflect and re-hash to see the days success and continually make the necessary changes in my behavior and dialogue to constantly serve at a higher level.  To me the more “lightening bug moments” I saw in my day the more successful the day.  And the beauty of my lightening bugs is that they live year round, rather than being seasonal.  Just like the lightening bugs in nature, the lightening bugs in my life bring a smile to my life, elevate my happiness, and allow me to feel innately successful at the end of the day; they awe me.

Beginning to see the lives of the people I touch on a daily basis as lightening bugs has allowed me to have a deeper appreciation for innate and it’s abilities.  I love that that my “lightening bug moments” have allowed me to know silently that their was an innate shift within a given individual.  This small shift in my perspective has made an immense impact on my life and level of service.  Start looking for the “lightening bug moments” in your life and just like when you were a child, sit back, smile, and be awed.

Replacing Anchors With Roots Catapults Growth

Replacing Anchors With Roots Catapults Growth

Dr. Martha’s Monday Morning Motivational

Monday, August 15, 2011

Change is hard, period, and sometimes change is really, really hard. Changes means growth, and even though growth is good; growth hurts because it stretches you out of your comfort zone and usually means you have to let go. Whether you are letting go of a past story, relationship, friendship, memory, outcome to a scenario, someone, or something, it’s not easy. It’s hard when you realize that you have come to a point in your life where you have grown up and are in turn are growing on. More so than not we anchor ourselves in the past or present and in turn inhibit and resist growth. When we come to the realization that a situation, someone, or something has become an anchor, which is holding us back, the time comes to make a cognitive and emotional switch, where the anchor is released and replaced with a root, which will allow growth.

There is a big difference between anchors and roots. Anchors are meant to connect a vessel to the floor of a body of water to prevent it from drifting. In our lives anchors do the same thing keeping us from drifting therefore keeping us idle. In an idle state we are unable to grow because movement is life. Much like an anchor is an integral part of a vessel, so is a root connecting a plant it to its soil bed and providing nutrients, food, and water. The root is a plant’s strength in storms with through tumultuous winds and serves as a preventative mechanism against erosion; a strong root allows for growth, provides support, and helps sustain life. Therefore an anchor hinders growth by mechanistically tying us down and a root is a vitalistic connection allowing evolution from past and present to future.

Inevitably the time comes when you have to decide if you are ready to catapult into the future and evolve into an even better version of yourself or if remaining in your present sate, which no longer serves you is a better option because it is safe and feels good? It boils down to the ever-present battle of feeling versus function. There is a huge difference between feeling and function. Feeling comes from the emotion that is tied to a set of circumstances, an individual, or something. Often a feeling will hold us back and keep us from functioning at an optimal level. These feelings vary in degree and can be any emotion on the spectrum from happy, sad, love, anger, fear, numb or another. Whether positive or negative it is necessary to assess whether or not the circumstances or individual that is causing the emotion is also allowing optimal function. When a situation impairs our function it is time to replace the anchor with a root and let growth occur; as you catapult into your next evolution the root gives you the sense of security necessary to persevere in faith, leaving behind your past and present and soaring into the future. Knowing that although unknown, what’s next is a necessary progression.

Only you can decide when the time is right to allow a necessary shift to occur by releasing the anchor and replacing it with a root. The root then becomes a reminder of where you have been, holds the memories that warm your heart and feeds your soul, and supports your continual growth. The release of the anchor instantly catapults you and “where you are” is now a “where you were”. Enjoy the journey and remember everything is a stepping-stone, until it becomes a stopping point, which in hindsight was always a stepping-stone.

Caught the Wave and Got My Spizz On

“Caught the Wave and Got My Spizz On”

This weekend as a team, my staff and I,  attended The Wave at Life West College.  It was a fantastic weekend of spizz, being dipped in chiropractic philosophy and love.  At The Wave we had the pleasure of attending the inauguration of Dr. Brian Kelly.  Chiropractic is truly blessed to have such a true visionary at the helm.  When I heard that Dr. Gerry Clum was stepping down as president of Life West College, sadness fell on my heart.  Since the first time I heard Gerry speak I was a huge fan and supporter of his.  His love for chiropractors and the profession was refreshing and combining that with his desire to raise up principled chiropractors made me know that because of him the future of chiropractic would be strong.  Hearing Brian’s heart this weekend put to rest any worries that Gerry’s vision would die as he passed the presidential torch.  After this weekend there is no doubt in my mind that Life West will be producing principled chiropractors, chiropractors that will guard our sacred trust.

Dr. Kelly’s vision does not stop with students but rather encompasses a better understanding and appreciation of chiropractic and chiropractors throughout the world.  Summed up, he wants to create the necessary wave in chiropractic to create a shift in chiropractic and chiropractors.  This past weekend at “The Wave” was a perfect example of his desire to inspire, lift up, and educate chiropractors! He provided a weekend centered around philosophy and abounding in “Tic Talk” from some of the profession’s most inspiring and ““spizzed”” out chiropractors!

“The Wave” is a must attend for next year! Personally, my staff and I had an amazing well-rounded weekend! Dr. Kelley, the talented Tina Carter, and the rest of the amazing staff at Life West Chiropractic College put on a wonderful chiropracTIC seminar! There was the perfect balance between education and fun and even included the historical moment of Dr. Kelly’s inauguration and ended with a luau! The entire weekend was abundant in chiropractic spizzerinctum! All-in-all the first Wave was a huge success and created quite the wave in chiropractic!

As chiropractors it is so important that we get dipped in chiropractic and get “spizzed”! As chiropractors, we give and give, sharing our love of chiropractic with the world and getting re-fueled is important! Just like a motor vehicle, chiropractors needs re-fueled to optimally function! Seminars are great re-fueling stations to get submerged in spizzerinctum! Spizzerinctum is a word made popular by BJ Palmer in the 1910s and 1920s and used to define chiropractic enthusiasm or excitement about chiropractic! From spizzerinctum is where we get the term ““spizzed””!

“The Wave” is one of many great seminars where you can get spizzzed! Another favorite of mine is “The California Jam” aka CalJam put on by Dr. Billy DeMoss and the Dead Chiropractic Society!  I have also heard wonderful things about New Beginnings and am hoping to attend my first New Beginnings this year in October! EPOCs, COREs, DCS, Band of Brothers, 33 DCs, and other philosophy groups are also great venues to get dipped in TIC and to be immersed in spizzerinctum! Wherever you decide to go, GO! Just get re-fueled, get “spizzed”!

When Your Soul Smiles: Re-cap of My Family Reunion

When Your Soul Smiles

Last weekend I had the pleasure of spending four days with my mother’s side of my family in Lavalette, NJ on the Jersey Shore.  Together I joined seventy members in celebrating life and love at the Murphy-Gleeson Family Reunion.  Every four years everyone joins together the first week of August to re-connect, reminisce, and make new memories.  Every waking minute was filled with love, laughter, and sheer joy!

There is something really special about the bond between family members.  Regardless of where an individual falls on the family tree there is an unspoken connection between each and every person that is not dictated by generation or exact relation.  Within families the genetic connection of DNA creates an adhesion to each others journey and life experience that supersedes the strength of rubber cement or super glue

This year was my first Murphy-Gleeson Family reunion.  Throughout the four days I was there I experienced a full spectrum of emotions from joy to sorrow and excitement to fear.  Regardless of the emotion, I allowed my self to feel each emotion.  I respected each emotion for what it was, a part of the overall experience.  I embraced each emotion and allowed to wash over me, stirring my cells in to motion and as the emotion passed, with an attitude of gratitude, I said an internal thanks to my innate for allowing me to maximize the experience.

There were parts of the weekend that were harder than others and at times embracing the moment seemed easier said than done.   Having lost my mother at two years old meant that her family became distant family.  My ex-step-mother didn’t encourage a relationship with my mother’s family and actually attempted to sever my relationship with them, so until the age of sixteen my mother’s parents, siblings, and there children were more so figments of my imagination.  Being able to drive meant being able to spend time with her family in Chicago and as often as I could I submerged my self in my mother’s spirit by spending time with the one’s who loved her most.

Being disconnected from my mother’s immediate family meant I was also disconnected from the more extended family on my mother’s side.  This weekend marked the bridging of that gap.  This weekend I saw a combination of relatives I had always heard of as well as relatives, which I had never heard of; all of which I was excited to meet.  I was amazed at the similarities we shared and how within twenty-four hours I felt at home and it was as though we had all known each other for a lifetime.

There were many times I just stepped back and looked around and as my soul smiled I attempted to absorb the vibration of love that filled the air around me. As I said this was my first family reunion for myself and I was awed by the love that abounded from my family, not shocked but awed.  I remember looking at my Maudie and PopPop and thinking this is all because to people fell in love and each branch on the family tree representing the joining to hearts and the product of their love.

As I said the bond between families is extremely special and attempting to attach a descriptive word to help describe that bond has proved to appear impossible.  I am not sure there is a word that gives it the justice it deserves without robbing it of its entirety.  But simply stated, when your family surrounds you and the vibration of love is enhancing your cellular function your soul smiles.  It’s an un-describable emotion that provides a high that leaves you yearning for more, giving four years the appearance of an eternity.

To my entire family on the Murphy-Gleeson side who so warmly embraced me this past weekend I want to say, “Thank you”.  Thank you for sharing in the joys that came with being surrounded by those who love me because they are a part of me.  Thank you for listening to my heart and shedding tears of both joy and sorrow.  Thank you for reminding me of how blessed I am and the strength of my family tree’s roots.  And most of all thank you for loving me! The weekend was not an easy one for me but it was exactly where I needed to be.  I am looking forward to next year!
