Innate Ideas #2 – Spizz It Up!

October 18, 2010

Spizzerinctum is the energy of the business.  We know the definition of this word that we as chiropractors hold dear to our hearts from our founding father, but do we live it? Does our practice reflect the principle of spizzerinctum?

I always remind my staff that the “E” in event is for ENERGY.  With the proper energy it’s impossible to not have a successful event and with a successful event it’s inevitable you will have an elevation of energy.  So, what does your event calendar look like? In my last Innate Idea I stressed the importance of having your marketing calendar ready in October of the current year for the next year and it’s crucial to have well planned, energy driven events planned both in and out of the office.

There are two categories of events in office (internal) and out of office (external). The events can vary in cost, theme, purpose, number in attendance, and target audience.  It’s crucial to outline the event in detail and clarify exactly the goals of each individual event.  In my office we try to have one internal event and one external event each month, atleast.

A few examples of internal events are “fun” and simple holidays, holiday celebrations, Women’s Indulgence Nights, Man’s Hang Out Nights, and so much more.  It’s easy to get a list of “fun” holidays off the internet.  “Yo-Yo Day” is a great day to give out a tiny Yo-Yo and remind practice members to not Yo-Yo their health care.  “National Hug Day” is a great way to educate on the importance of hugs; on this day we wear shirts from which read “I Hug Back”.  There are hundreds of fun and simple holidays.  Holidays in general are a great way to bring people together and tying in chiropractic makes it all the more a success.  Women’s Indulgence Nights and Man’s Hang Out Nights allow your practice members to address their respective needs and socialize with other like minded people.

For external events the list in endless; talks and lectures, Wine Nights, Screenings, Health Fairs, Patient Appreciation Dinners, Community Wellness Days, and so much more.  If you set out the intention that you want talks and lectures and simply ask practice members and friends your calendar will fill up quickly.  Wine nights are a great way to gather practice members and their friends in a welcoming setting where you can share wine and engage with each other.  Screening and health fairs are a great way to get patients who are out seeking your service.  Saying, “Thank You” is fun and easy with a Patient Appreciation Dinner.  It’s a great way to say thank you to those you serve and introduce yourself to their friend and loved ones.  Community Wellness Days are becoming more and more popular and allow you to reach out to your entire community and educate on the importance of chiropractic.

Whether internal or external the objective is the same, to create energy within your office.  Remember what you put in you get out and the more energy the more results.  Regardless of the event, it is important that you create energy!! Go ahead get Spizzin’!

The Importance of Being Firmly Planted

Dr. Martha’s Monday Morning Motivational

Monday, October 18, 2010

Sitting and thinking about flowers, I came to the conclusion that we as humans are very similar to flowers and as chiropractors we need to realize our patients are part of our garden.

When we begin this life we are but a seed that must be firmly planted.  We need to be placed in the proper environment to grow into the best version of ourselves.  When we first begin this life our potential is limitless and unknown.  If we are showered in the appropriate amount of love, given appropriate nutrients, protected and rooted, and most importantly planted in close vicinity with which to share our life.  With this recipe we are set up to bloom into the beautiful human being we were destined to be.

The concept of love is really interesting.  We all have our preconceived notions of what love should be but it all boils down to God is love and we should be too.  His love is limitless and therefore our love should reflect a love that has no barriers.  Often we set limitations on our love or stipulations.  It is imperative that we understand that love is a gift and learning to give it freely and abundantly is one of our superpowers.  Love is the highest vibration and vibration is motion and motion Is growth.

Appropriate nutrients are so important.  As humans we need water, whole foods, appropriate minerals, and nutrients.  The human body is organic in nature and it is important that we provide it nutrients in the same form.  We are not synthetic in nature and therefore synthetics such as processed foods are a stress to our system.   With proper nutrition a plant grows strong and fully blooms and the same holds true for humans.

We need to be rooted in strong and noble thought to have a foundation from which to grow just as a flower must be given the opportunity to root itself.  The stronger our roots the more stable our growth.  As a flower grows it needs to be protected and sheltered from too much of any one thing in order to establish strength as it grows.  Humans need that same shelter and protection.  We need to be given boundaries and taught to understand the importance of boundaries to protect ourselves. Through boundaries and strong roots we are able to become educated in the necessary lessons of life.

Flowers alone are beautiful but together they truly outstanding.  Whether in a bouquet, a planter, or in landscaping; when combined with others each individual flower’s detail truly stands out.  This same theory holds true for humans, uniting with others who share in our values and vision we gain strength and truly shine.  With a community of like-minded people individuals build off of each others strengths, just like the perfect combination of flowers planted together.    It is important to remember you are pre-destined to share your life with others, you were not meant to live your life alone.

Realizing how humans, like flowers, bloom where they are planted I began to realize as a chiropractor I need to view each practice members as a beautiful, single flower needing to be re-potted.  Placing them in the perfect pot allows them to truly flourish and become rooted in the foundation of wellness.  It needs to be our objective to provide them with the proper pillars necessary to embrace a wellness lifestyle.  It is our job to shower them with love, educate them on proper nutrition, teach them the principles of chiropractic and help to restore their inborn nervous system potential, and introduce them to a community of like minded individuals within our practice.  With the aforementioned guidelines our practice members like flowers will fully bloom.

Go be the gardner you were called to be…cherish each “flower” that crosses your path.

Innate Ideas #1 – Marketing Calendar

October 11, 2010

It’s October. already, which means its time to have your NEXT year’s calendar planned out.  I know where did the year go? Your marketing calendar should include all your internal and external marketing events, seminars you will be attending, lectures and talks you will be giving, and holiday and vacation days.  For each event, talk, etc… you need to create a time line so that you leave yourself adequate time to assure your event is a success! Also, create goals and rewards for each event, especially the big ones.  List out how many NP’s you want to attract and how many guests overall you need to make the event a success.  Create a reward system for you and your staff to keep you laser focused.  Everyone loves a reward! With a well planned out and thought through marketing calendar you are sure to start the new year off on the right foot!

If you haven’t started yet for next year or have never done a marketing event before then there is no time better than the present to get started.  A marketing plan is a necessity to keep the vibration high in the office for the sanity of you, your staff, and your practice members.  I always say that the “E” in events is for energy! That’s why I have an event driven practice.  I absolutely love the energy created around events…you will too! Remember, even a small event can have a big out come.  It all depends on what you put in which is a direct correlation to what you get out.

If you have  created your marketing calendar…awesome! Now spice it up this year and add something new and crazy to each quarter to spice it up! Remember, you and only you create the practice of your dreams! You only live one life, make it the best ever!

Enjoy this Innate Idea! I look forward to sharing from the sketch pad in my head.  We are all in this together.

Re-Entering is a Re-Birth

I just got home from 8 days in the Dominican Republic and Haiti, where I completed my third mission trip.  Mission trips are very interesting for me.  They allow me to remove myself from the world of “what is” and escape to a place of complete service.  If you haven’t been on a mission let me explain…in our daily lives we fall into a routine.  We go through the motions over and over again.  Especially when we get our SYSTEMS done; we know what to say, what to do, etc… to convey the message to our communities as a whole.  But, when you are on a mission there are cultural variants, language barriers, time/scheduling, etc variables that come into play.  On a mission you can’t hide behind routine, scripting, scheduling, etc… it’s a free for all and you are forced to enter into a place of complete service.  You are forced to let go of all you know to be true and go with instinct.  Listening purely to your heart and your gut.  For some it’s scary and for others its re-assuring and for some it is the combo but when it is all said and done everyone sums it up to growth.  Because any time we leave our comfort zone we grow.

Every time I re-enter into the life I let behind it takes a few days, well the second trip it took a week.  It takes some time to re-adapt back to life that you left behind.  Inevitably there are a few things I realize while on the mission…things I know I want changed for ever for the better, self-tweaking if you will.  It all takes time. Four to seven days on a mission seems like a lifetime because so much happens, especially in the area of growth.  That’s what really makes re-entry difficult.  On the mission you grow, well I do.  So, you feel so close to all those on the mission because they to are growing at the speed of light with you.  The part that makes re-entry hard is that while you are gone, it’s almost as if nothing changes.  So, you come back completely evolved and re-enter in to the same scenario you left, which is where the difficulty surfaces.

Having been on three missions I am able to see this growth and evolution as a blessing, a gift I bring back, so to speak.  I have come to realize that all I learn on the mission at both a worldly and soul level is a gift I get to bring back.  Mission trips aren’t for everyone but growth is a necessity for everyone.  So, when I re-enter I realize that I have the opportunity to share my growth with those whose lives I touch.  It’s like being the town crier, you have a really great message and a healing energy to share with your community.  It’s interesting because everyone expects a trinket when you return home on a trip but no one expects you to come home with life changing lessons that are priceless.

I realize I need to do this a lot more and not just when I leave the country.  I know personally I have re-births all the time as I constantly evolve into the best version of myself.  I know that some times I can’t put them into words but when I can I need to share them.  This is an important thing for us as purpose driven chiropractors to remember each time we attend a seminar, read a book, or experience any growth.  It is part of our duty to help aid in the re-birth of our practice members, communities, and friends lives.

Dr. Martha’s Monday Morning Motivational

Happy Birthday Chiropractic! September 18th marked the 115th birthday of chiropractic! D.D. Palmer and B.J. Palmer laid the foundation from which the chiropractic profession blossomed.  Remember your roots, the principles, the philosophy, and most importantly the power of the chiropractic adjustment.  Stand firm against the CCE changes so we have a 116th birthday to celebrate.

My Why?

On chiropractic’s birthday I could not help but stop and think about chiropractic throughout the years. I felt like I owed it to the Palmer’s to sit down and reflect on all they created.  I literally had tears in my eyes when I thought about where we came from, where we have been, and the beauty of what lies ahead.  One hundred and fifteen years ago D.D. Palmer founded the profession that I love, on the principle of vitalism.  Knowing that the human body was meant to function without nervous system interference, he studied the human body and developed the chiropractic adjustment which would allow the body to balance itself.

D.D. started the journey that continues today.  As a profession we have been through a lot and that remains true today with the CCE’s latest proposals.  There have been times where as a profession we are at our highs and much like most things in life there have been lows.  It is imperative that we as chiropractors, chiropractic advocates, and chiropractic college students step up and continue the journey the Palmers began 115 years ago.  While they may no longer walk this earth there love of chiropractic needs to live through us.  We have been left big shoes to fill, but we are never given more than we can handle.  It is time that we step up and claim what is ours and preserve the integrity of chiropractic.

We are CHIROPRACTORS NOT primary chiropractic physicians or doctors of chiropractic medicine.  We correct SUBLUXATIONS. We are a profession founded on the CHIROPRACTIC PARADIGM OF NATURAL HEALTH, which does not use drugs or surgery.  We are CHIROPRACTORS.  These are your roots, know where you came from and stay true to your foundation.

Much like our forefathers many years ago fought for chiropractic, who went to jail for chiropractic, it is time that we step up.  MAKE sure you submit your comments and revisions to the CCE by September 24th (and get a copy to Dr. Gerry Clum too, just “in case” they get lost in the shuffle).  I will end by saying, “STEP UP! STEP UP! STEP UP!

To Shoot or Not to Shoot?

Dr. Martha’s Monday Morning Motivational

Let’s talk flu vaccine.  D.D. Palmer said, “Compulsory vaccination is an outrage and a gross interference with the liberty of the people in a land of freedom.” Any Questions?

Whenever I am driving I am constantly reminded to stay on task and to serve at a higher level as I pass business after business offering flu shots for free or for a discounted price.  I am sickened at Big Pharma and the amount of money spent on advertising, especially when our nation is in the state that it is in economically.  As if the signage papering the walls of buildings and plastered on every billboard and business isn’t enough there is the use of television.  Big Pharma knows how many people will believe anything they hear and see when it’s via a t.v. or radio ad.  They add the aspect of fear by saying, “If you love them…” or “The only true way to protect your child from the flu and/or the possibility of death…” or “Not getting the flu yourself you can infect your child…” or “Save the elderly in your life…”.  This time of year it is everywhere I look, go, and all that I listen to via person and radio.  And to add fuel to my fire they even offer what I refer to as a “DRIVE BY SHOOTING”, where you can drive through a hospital and get a vaccine without ever leaving your car.  I am not sure how this became legal or whose brilliant idea this was but it  is completely ignorant creating yet another venue to become poisoned and with no hassle.

My first of MANY questions regarding the flu vaccine is are there any guidelines for vaccines? Can anyone and everyone get one? What about the immune compromised, isn’t there a possibility that injecting a LIVE virus into their blood stream could decrease their immunity even more? What about really, really stressed out people wouldn’t this add EVEN more stress to their body? What testing and assessing is done to see if in fact the individual truly needs a vaccine? Or if that vaccine will make them worse and not just “protect them (yeah right)”? What are the parameters used? I don’t think there are any…that I have seen. They only say: no one under 6 months (whats the difference between 6 moths and 7 months? REALLY?), if you are already ill, if you are allergic to the flu vaccine, AND the kicker : People who developed People who developed Guillain-Barre Syndrome within 6 weeks of getting an influenza vaccine.within 6 weeks of getting an influenza vaccine. NOTE: how do you know if you are allergic without getting one? And seriously, Guillain-Barre Syndrome is a risk.  You have got to be kidding me.  One word, WOW!

Let’s put this in perspective…one is offered “drive thru chiropractic adjustement”.  In this scenario, an individual is able to drive up to my office and honk.  I come running out with a clipboard and ask them to sign to validate that I am NOT responsible for anything at all that may occur. Now note that I am not saying that bad happens with an adjustment but that I have not assessed their nervous system and have no clue of it’s level of function.  Nor do I have any clue if they have fractures, fusions, or surgical changes that may require a specific adjustment type.  Note that I have also not checked their spine and I am not aware of whether or not they have any subluxations and at what levels they have misalignment.  I can only imagine how this would all go down…it would be all over the news.  I would have the medical profession, the general public, and, HOPEFULLY, the chiropractic profession in an upheaval.  The irony is that a WHOLE LOT LESS could go wrong IF ANYTHING with this scenario and you are all probably astounded…I can only imagine what society would think.  This same scenario is also true of giving  adjustments in a grocery store, drug store, mall, and other places… like they do flu vaccines.  I’m surprised they don’t have them in arcades, movie theaters, or at parks.  I better be careful not to give BIG PHARMA any ideas.

Bringing up the irony, only a percentage of society flinches at the flu vaccine…and YOU CAN DIE FROM IT!! Or become autistic or paralyzed.  AND the kicker is you usually GET THE FLU! Why is it more rare to find someone who thinks this is RIDICULOUS…utterly and simply ridiculous??

If you are of my view point please heed my recommendations.  I recommend you drink plenty of water, eat whole and live foods in balanced proportions, get adequate sleep, slow down, take your vitamins and fish oil, most importantly see your chiropractor regularly.  Regular chiropractic care balances your nervous system and therefore strengthens your immune system.  A strong immune system is essential to protect your body from bacteria and viruses.  FYI, a weak immune system allows your body to be a petri dish for bacteria and virus making you susceptible to “BEING SICK”. FYI, getting a flu vaccine DECREASES your overall flu vaccine.

It is important that as chiropractors, chiropractic patients, and chiropractic advocates we educate like never before…we have no choice. There are more of “THEM” and they have more money…BUT, we have passion and passion is can create an unstoppable force.  Donald Trump said, “Without passion, you don’t have energy; without
energy, you have nothing. Nothing great in the world has been
accomplished without passion.” Think about it…how much passion can they have about shooting poison in people’s veins? They don’t. They have passion about the money they make…smiling as their pocket books swell.  Step up, we have the knowledge…it is time to share.  Come from a place of love and truth and you will be openly accepted by those who cross your path. There is no way an educated person would choose to get vaccinated.

Need more convincing? Watch this: [youtube=] Need I say more? Really would you shoot your child with this? Or drink it? Then WHY WOULD YOU PUT IT IN YOUR VEINS -DIRECTLY IN YOUR BLOOD STREAM?

You Need a Few More Labor Days

You Need a Few More Labor Days

Monday, September 6, 2010

Taking a day for yourself is imperative to rest, relax, and rejuvenate.  Serving at the highest level allows an individual to touch more lives and make a greater impact but it also sets them up for quicker burnout.  That’s why days of rest are so important and necessary, a day just for you! When was the last day you set aside for you? Don’t remember? Whether you remember or not, get out your calendar and block a few out for the rest of the year.

My Why?

Since it was Labor Day I thought I would remind myself and all my readers of why Labor Day was created.  Labor Day is about more than just the long weekend; it’s about you. Really. The holiday was created in conjunction with the labor movement “to celebrate the social and economic achievements of American workers,” in the words of the Department of Labor. The truth is you need a few Labor Days a year.

Labor Days” are imperative to re-fuel.  I know for me it is easy to get wrapped up in all the “Have To’s” that are required to get it all fit in to the 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 52 weeks, and 12 months we see ourselves as limited to in a year and I know I am not alone.  But, like I MUST remind myself, I am reminding you that YOU days (I call mine “Dr. Martha Days”) are VERY important.  They are a necessity! Set day or more aside and “shut down” from your everyday responsibilities to re-fuel.  While it may be hard to walk away once you do you will be glad you did and you will come back more focused and super charged! Ready to serve at a whole new level.  ENJOY!

Attitude of Gratitude

An Attitude of Gratitude

August 30, 2010

Dr. Martha’s Monday Morning Motivational

If you are looking to increase your vibrational state start by giving thanks each day. Gratitude is the simplest way to get a vibrational boost! Being gracious shows the universe you are thankful for all you have received and open and ready to receive in abundance.

Gratitude is the heart’s memory.  -French Proverb

My Why?

I heard once that you should start every morning with a full glass of gratitude.  The minute I heard this I started my day chugging a full glass immediately up on waking. I gave thanks for all I received and pre-thanked the universe for what I was about to receive.   I instantaneously noticed more and more blessings falling into my life.  I realized an intricate balance between thanking in abundance and receiving in abundance.

The French proverb, I list above states that “Gratitude is the heart’s memory”.  I just love this proverb and it is so true. When we express gratitude it comesstraight from the heart’s memory bank.  Something or someone has touched so deeply that it left a footprint in our heart and evoked an emotion.  An imprint like this is what leads us to be gracious. Expressing that gratitude sets forth a vibration attracting abundance into your life.

To all you who read I am truly grateful for your support! I have truly grown through this process and it is my wish you have as well.

“Innate Ideas” by Innate Girl

“So what’s an “Innate Idea”?”, Your probably asking. Well, let me just clarify so we are all on the same page and you can start putting this “Innate Idea” into action.  An “Innate Idea” is my gift to you.  Through “Innate Ideas” I will be sharing my personal gems with you.  I have become known for stepping out of the box when it comes to being a chiropractor and running a practice, creating a intricate balance between “old school” chiropractic and “new” innovations.  The combination of  old and new has allowed me to talk the “TIC” in a energetic and uplifting environment that creates a magnetic field pulling new and existing practice members into my practice. This constant and intense energy has allowed me to create the practice of my dreams and to continually evolve it to an even better practice over time.

“Innate Ideas” will vary week to week, and have no set date of release. They will cover a wide variety of topics on varying aspects of chiropractic.  Some “Innate Ideas” will be oldies but goodies that we all need to be reminded of throughout our years of practice while others will be things straight from the sketch pad in my head which have given me great results. Through utilizing new and exciting ways of  marketing: internal and external, communication, managing staff, and educating chiropractic just to name a few, I have been able to keep my office upbeat and exciting.  Creating an environment that my patients love to be a part of and encourage their friends as well. My office has become an oasis of wellness within the community as an educational, motivational, entertaining and health beacon. Personally, I find great excitement in stepping outside the box and attempting new ideas to add excitement to my practice and it’s members lives. I always ask myself, “Would I enjoy that?” So read my “Innate Ideas” and enjoy them!! They are my gift to you!

Have You Checked Your “Love Reserves”?

Have Yu Checked Your “Love Reserves”?

When was the last time you looked in the mirror and truthfully and thoughtfully told yourself, “I love you?”  Do you do it daily? If so, Congrats! Never done it before? Start today! In order to truly and fully love others; you must first love yourself.

My Why?

“I love you” is a common phrase which shows adoration.  It’s used when we deeply care for someone and know deep within our soul that we are better having known them.  When we want what is best for that person always above all els. When we are present for them regardless of barriers  that is when we  can  be  certain that we love them. Loving someone  is represented in different states, attitudes, and  feelings. Love it’s a virtue that represents having human kindness, compassion, and affection.  It is the deepest emotion an individual can express. Loving others comes easy for some and more difficult for others depending on the individual. Remember love is the highest vibration on earth and once you’re struck; you’re stuck:)

But when it comes to loving yourself is when it gets tough.  It’s easy to love someone else whether it happens right away or gradually grows.  When it comes to loving ones self  is when things become a little more difficult!

Someone whom I love and admire in this world with all my heart, challenged me to fall in love with myself to change my life.  I was at a point in my life when I really thought the world was against me…and that NOTHING was going to go my way.  I was doing all I could to stay above ground. I was turning my wheels and getting no where.  Truthfully, I thought I was doing everything right…exactly “I thought”.

Rather than truly loving myself I was neglecting myself and finding what I believed to be more fulfillment in full out loving others. While the love I was giving others was real and genuine it was becoming exhausting; depleting my “love reserves”.  You may ask how can giving love drain your reserves? It’s easy when you are giving love to everyone but yourself.  Let me explain…

The love one is able to give themselves is a pure love that is innocent and genuine.  A love that has no limitations or restrictions.  It’s an innate love that is abundant.  So, if this love is so great why are we so stingy with it when it comes to filling our own hearts with it and unconditionally loving ourselves?

Just like anything we learn in life we are taught by those in our immediate environment, our MFTP (mothers, fathers, teachers, and preachers).  We learn from our key influences.  Over time life lessons get diluted or important lessons get left out.  It’s imperative that regardless of age we re-implement these principles or for the first time learn them.  Not only for ourselves but for the generations which we impact. Let’s focus now, on learning the importance of loving yourself and why we so often neglect this ever so important part of our lives.

When it comes to showing up big for loved ones both friends and family we often do whatever it takes to make sure they know  much they are loved.  We make sure and let them know though words, thoughts, and gift giving, making sure that they know how much they mean to us.  We give them clarity in knowing we are their number one fan, regardless.

Whether or not we want to admit it at times, we give so much to others that at times it becomes draining. This is not insinuating that we should stop loving others so much but rather we should we do a self assessment.  Wondering how to do so? It’s simple.  Let me explain.

It’s imperative that we take time to check our “love reserves”.  This is the amount of love you have available inside of you to utilize for yourself and others. Loving yourself?  Shocked? I was…isn’t it vain, to love yourself?  I’m not talking ego or boast; I am talking pure unadulterated love for yourself. Having agape love; divine, unconditional, self-sacrificing, active, volitional, and thoughtful love for yourself.  Love that allows you to become your own number one fan.   Believing in yourself, taking time for yourself, talking positively to yourself, and utilizing other ways of just plain loving yourself.  Remembering that  love comes from you and not to you, loving yourself is a crucial aspect of life. And when you finally get to the point where you are passionately in love with yourself you will realize the multiplication of your love for others.  You will then see that as your internal love overflows it subsequently flows into your love for others.  Yes, loving yourself more will allow you to in turn give out more love.

Where does one start?  Do what I did, start with this simple task, look in  the mirror and say “I love you”.  It may seem easy but personally I struggled.  Much like anything it will be easy for some and hard for others.  For me it took awhile but when I was finally able to look myself directly in my own eyes and with complete adoration say, “I love you” and mean it was the last time I ever felt like my love reserves were running dry.  That was a pivotal point in my life where I know my life was forever altered and my love for others was never so true and so deep.

For me it’s a daily thing that may seem trivial to some but I want to always know that I am giving genuine, bountiful love to all those who I come in contact especially my dearest friends and family because first and foremost, I love myself.
